Claims Examiner Training

Oregon law requires all new workers’ compensation claims examiners to obtain “certification” by successfully completing an examination that demonstrates their familiarity with pertinent statutes, administrative rules, and claims procedures. Certified examiners must also renew their certification every three years by documenting 24 hours of continuing education on approved topics.

Initial Certification. Since its inception in 1991, hundreds of Oregon claims examiners have obtained their certification by completing OWCI’s “Basic Workers’ Compensation” claims course and accompanying examination. The course is presented by OWCI Director and attorney Jerry Keene, the author of the course textbook who also designed the certification examination.

Continuing Education. Jerry Keene is available to conduct on-site training and legal updates approved for “Legal Update” and “IME Interactions” credits required by Oregon’s certification rules. Such credits may also be obtained by viewing recorded presentations from OWCI’s “Basic Workers’ Compensation” course series, which can be scheduled upon request in the Reinisch Wilson Weier, P.C. Training Center in Tigard, Oregon. Contact Jerry Keene for more information on OWCI’s rates for such presentations.
